DCB-21 SDI CLOSED CAPTIONING POSITIONER / BRIDGE

Prevent captions from blocking emergency warnings.

As per FCC ruling 47CFR79.2, "emergency information should not block any closed captioning, and any closed captioning should not block any emergency information" (click here to open FCC ruling in a separate window).  The DCB-21 will vertically re-position previously encoded SDI closed captioning during local road/weather warnings or EAS crawls.  Two GPI's, plus on-board jumpers, provide a choice of five upper and five lower screen positions.  The DCB-21 may also bridge both odd and even fields of line 21 around video processing equipment that disrupts this line.  (The odd field of line 21 contains CC data, while the even field contains V-chip and Extended Data Services.)  This bridging mode may be activated separately or simultaneously with the re-positioning, via a third GPI.  A unique feature of the DCB-21 is the ability to successfully bridge CC data from one NTSC video source to another, without the two sources being synchronous or timed with each other.  Embedded audio is passed through in all modes.  Re-position and bridge functions are initiated by latching GPI's.  A power failure bypass relay is provided to ensure failsafe operation.  The DCB-21 occupies one of three slots in the FR601, 1RU frame.  An optional redundant power supply is available.  Click here to see functional drawings showing re-positioning & bridging using the DCB-21.

DCB-21 Price (plug-in board): $2225.00 USD / FR601 Price: $625.00
Optional redundant power supply for FR601: $335.00 USD

VBI-232 DATA ENCODER / DECODER

Remote Equipment Control via the Vertical Blanking Interval

The VBI-232 encoder and decoder will establish a reliable data link between any two sites where a baseband video link exists.  Outgoing video is looped through the encoder at the transmission site.  RS232 data is fed from the CP-1, eight button control panel to the encoder.  Each button on the CP-1 may be jumpered for momentary or latching operation.  A GPI option is also available.  The encoder converts the RS232 data into biphase pulses, and inserts these pulses into a user selected, clean line in the vertical blanking interval (line 12-21 for NTSC, line 9-22 for PAL).

At the receive site, the biphase pulses are transparently extracted from looped through video at the decoder, and converted back to RS232.  This data is fed to the RL-1 relay board.  Each of the eight relays may be jumpered for N.O. or N.C. operation.  These 2 amp relay contacts are brought out to a rear panel connector, (or if housed in a Leitch DA frame, they are brought out to individual BNC's).  The VBI-232 decoder board and RL-1 relay board pair are normally housed together in the BVS FR710, one rack unit frame.

The encoder will also accept RS232 data at a 1200 baud rate (via DB9 connector) directly from a PC, for applications where computer control is required.  This data is then available on a DB9 connector at the decoder.

VBI-232 Encoder/Decoder Price (plug-in board): $1490.00 USD / FR710 Price: $625.00 USD
RL-1 Price: $690.00 USD / CP-1 Price: $440.00 USD / GPI Option for CP-1: $180.00

VBI-232D SDI DATA ENCODER / DECODER

The VBI-232D is the SDI equivalent of the popular VBI-232 analog data transmission system.  A unique feature of this new design is the ability of an SDI encoder to communicate with an existing analog decoder, as well as an SDI decoder.

RS232 data from the CP-1, eight button control panel is fed to the encoder.  Each button on the CP-1 may be jumpered for momentary or latching (push on/push off) operation.  A GPI option is also available.  The encoder converts the RS232 and embeds the appropriate data into a user selectable line in the SDI bitstream.  A card edge switch allows data insertion from lines 12 through 20, plus line 22 for 525 line systems.  Lines 13 through 21, plus line 23 are available for 625 line systems.

At the receive site, the VBI-232D decoder extracts the embedded data from the SDI signal, converts it back to RS232, and feeds this data to the RL-1 relay board.  Eight relays, with 2 amp rated contacts, are brought out to a DB9 connector on the rear panel.  Each relay may be jumpered for N.O. or N.C. operation.  A clean SDI output, minus the embedded control data, is provided from the decoder.  As both the encoder and decoder are in the transmission path, both units are equipped with failsafe bypass relays.

In situations where the receive site is taking an analog NTSC or PAL feed from an SDI originating point, our VBI-232 analog decoder and relay board will provide the same functions as the SDI versions.  In all installations our original CP-1, eight button control panel is used.  The VBI-232D decoder board and the RL-1 relay board pair are normally housed together in the BVS FR601 one rack unit frame, leaving one empty slot for an additional card from the 601 card family.

This data control system is ideal for remote control of servers for local ad insertion, control of remote transmitters, or any situation where a hard contact closure, operated from a remote location, is required.

VBI-232D Encoder/Decoder Price (plug-in board): $1675.00 USD / FR601 Price: $625.00 USD
RL-1 Price: $690.00 USD / CP-1 Price: $440.00 USD / GPI Option for CP-1: $180.00
